Independent advice, honestly explained

Background
Techowire started in 2021 as a shared spreadsheet. Four people who kept being asked the same question — “which one should I buy?” — began writing down what they found so they would not have to answer it twice.
That spreadsheet became a website. The principle has not changed: work out what the person actually needs, compare the published specifications honestly, and name the trade-off instead of pretending it does not exist.
We are an editorial publisher. We do not sell products, we do not run a shop, and we do not accept payment for a placement.
Editorial independence
Techowire is funded by affiliate commissions and by nothing else. When you buy through a link on this site, the merchant pays us a percentage. That is the entire business model, and we think you should know it.
The important part is what that money cannot buy. It cannot buy a position in a list. It cannot buy a scenario label. It cannot buy a verdict. Several of our most-read recommendations earn us less than the alternatives we tell people to avoid.
If a product is not worth buying at its asking price, we say so — and we say what we would buy instead, even when that earns us nothing.
How we research
Every claim on this site begins with a manufacturer’s published specification sheet. Where a number is not published, or where we cannot verify it, it does not appear. We would rather say less than guess.
We are not a test laboratory. We do not measure battery runtime, colour accuracy or sound pressure levels ourselves, and we never claim to. Where our guidance is inference rather than a verified fact, the wording says so.
Each product record carries a last-checked date. Specifications change quietly — a panel supplier swaps, a battery rating is revised, a port is removed. When that happens the record is updated or retired.
What we will never do
We will not invent a rating. No stars, no scores out of ten, no “editor’s score” we cannot justify. Scenario labels — best for commuting, best value, best for small desks — do the same job and are honest about what they mean.
We will not fabricate testing. We will not write “after two weeks with this laptop” unless somebody actually spent two weeks with it.
We will not publish fake urgency, invented stock levels, or a countdown timer to nothing. If a price is low today, we say the price changes often and you should check it yourself.
Principles
- Recommend the product that fits the scenario, not the one with the bigger commission.
- Name the trade-off every single time, even when it weakens the recommendation.
- Publish a last-checked date and stand behind it.
- Tell people when they do not need to buy anything at all.
The team
Techowire is written by a small editorial group with backgrounds in consumer electronics retail, technical writing and product management. We publish under the Techowire name rather than personal bylines because the standard is the publication’s, not an individual’s.
